Selena
She was a performer, designer and a music pioneer. Her character as the Mexican American performer was modern and traditional. She brought Tejano to the mainstream with her innovative approach. Her untimely death splintered her growing popularity and, as often happens the moment a brilliant, warm singer dies too young, it left many to mourn all the untapped potential. In the years since, her admirers are working even harder in an effort to not forget what she has achieved. The death of Selena triggered emotion in Latino society that could be likened with Elvis Presley, and John Lennon. A hugely popular Latino performer across North America, Selena's music has touched many lives across cultures. Selena might have been described by certain people as an Latina Madonna, but she's still a fantastic character model. Selena's family values off stage as well as her involvement in AIDS awareness campaigns provide a great example.
